I stepped into the world of ceramics, when I was looking for a new hobby and was instantly hooked. I took a year long course at the Art House in Sheffield, learning hand building techniques. This new hobby quickly developed and after encouragement from my family, I began to sell my pieces at art and craft fairs.
My style is quirky and somewhat whimisical...I like to create pottery pieces that tell a story and people fall in love with. My influences are folk art, mythology and British folk lore. We're lucky that we live in an area rich in local traditions and stories. I can be often found exploring a museum, looking at ancient artifacts to get inspiration.
My favourite part of the ceramic process is opening the kiln after a glaze firing. It's genuinely like Christmas Day, as each piece I make is treasured by myself and sometimes hard to let go of.
The charming cats on my pottery have all been drawn by myself, then digitally sized to fit and turned into a ceramic waterslide decal. These are added on at the last firing.
I have an instagram account where you can see the pieces I'm working on and the dates of any fairs I'm attending. https://www.instagram.com/sarahhowardpottery/
